Back to back Bulldogs

The Gators have struggled against Mississippi State. Who knows why. It's just one of those things that can happen in sports. Sometimes a team just has your number. Do I think that Florida will win today? Probably. But I anticipate having at least as many heart attacks as I suffered against Arkansas last week.
The western division Bulldogs are a vastly improved team, and next week the Gators face the eastern division Bulldogs, a vasty, erm... unimproved team. Why does it matter that we're playing Bulldogs in back to back weeks?

Well... Back in 2007 (2009), the Florida Gators were on a quest to repeat as national champions. After narrowly escaping Ole Miss (Arkansas), the Gators started a two-game stretch against both Tiger (Bulldog) teams. The two game stretch got off to a bad start as the Auburn Tigers (Mississippi State Bulldogs) upset the #3 (#2) Gators. The next week against the LSU Tigers (Georgia Bulldogs), the Gators jumped on the competition early, but ultimately could not hold on.
While I admit that Mississippi State isn't on the level of that 9-4 Auburn team and Georgia isn't as good as 12-2 national champion LSU, it's still a cautionary tale. Dan Mullen will be out for blood, and a win over the Golden Tebow and Coach Meyer would be huge for Mississippi State. Also, with speculation flying about Mark Richt's job security, you think he wouldn't love a win over the hated Gators?
Florida will probably win each of these games and continue on their collision course with Alabama. Still, they cannot be caught looking ahead. Dan Mullen knows our team better than anyone outside of Urban Meyer, and with Spikes out, Dixon could go crazy on the Gators. Likewise, Georgia needs a big win after getting murdered by Tennessee (Vandy does not count).
Last time Florida played SEC teams with the same mascot back to back, it didn't go well. Let's hope that history doesn't repeat itself this year.

P.S. Why is the SEC so piss-poor at picking mascots? Two Tigers and two Bulldogs teams? Really, there are only 12 teams in this league, you couldn't have come up with something else?
